Master of Healthcare Administration Online – Convenient options for continuing education

Are you considering a Master of Healthcare Administration but don’t have the time to attend classes on campus? No worries – Auburn University in Montgomery offers online courses that allow much more flexibility than traditional classes. As an online student, you will be able to access your courses at your convenience and communicate with the instructor via email and through the AUM Online learning platform.

Below, we go over how getting your MHA online can benefit you.

Why get a Master of Healthcare Administration online?

Many students who are going to school for their MHA are already working in hospitals as mid-level managers, physicians, and nurses. They know that with an MHA, they can advance their careers to become hospital and practice managers, chief nursing officers, nursing home executive directors, etc.

Students who are working or have other obligations find it easier to take their classes online, or they choose a hybrid option where they take some of the courses online and occasionally attend class on campus. Whatever the reason may be, online learning is a convenient way to get a Master of Healthcare Administration and build up a resume at the same time.

Online vs. on-campus learning

Many students wonder if there is a difference between online classes and the classes taken on-campus. Online courses allow flexibility to take classes when you want. However, online courses have the same curriculum, the same qualified faculty, and follow the same standards for instruction and grading as traditional on-campus classes. Students register for web courses during the regular registration period, receive the same credit, and study under the same regulations as all other students.

One of the main differences between traditional and online learning is some students find online classes more engaging and rewarding through the interaction created in online discussions. Students are often more willing to discuss things when the conversation is held online instead of in person, which encourages greater collaboration and improves communication skills needed for success in healthcare administration.

How does AUM Online work?

All AUM Online hybrid and online courses are presented on Blackboard, the industry standard for higher education online learning. You do not have to be a computer expert to take online classes. You only need to be familiar with your computer and know where to get help if needed. Just like any college course, you will be given a syllabus with course objectives, assignments, exams, due dates, etc.

Once the course begins, students should access the course frequently to review announcements, discussion posts, and course messages. Once the course opens in Blackboard on the first day of class, students have 24/7 access to it.

At the start of each week, you will access your course in Blackboard to find the assigned readings and activities. By the middle of the week, you will begin participating in a discussion forum and will finish your responses near the end of the week. Some courses have weekly quizzes. Most courses have 2 to 4 exams during the semester. Occasionally, courses may include real-time chat or Blackboard Collaborate sessions.

If you need or prefer to interact with your professors in a physical space and don’t have time to attend classes on campus full time, you might be interested in taking some hybrid courses. These courses combine face-to-face class meetings and online course work. Depending on the class, you might meet on campus once a week or just one or two times during the semester.

Online students need to be motivated to complete their degree, have excellent time management skills, be willing to spend 7-10 hours per week per online course, and own a computer. Take the online readiness assessment to learn more.
